Chapter 4: Tina to the Rescue#
Tina took a deep breath. Then she stepped into the narrow, dark crack.
Squeeze. Her small body fit.
Step, step, step. Her small feet were quiet on the stones.
Pip flew just ahead. His shiny wings made a soft glow, like a tiny lantern in the dark.
“This way,” said Pip. “I can see a little light. Keep going, Tina.”
It was dark. It was tight. Tina felt scared. But she thought about Rosie, all alone, and she kept going.
Around a bend in the rock, she found her.
“Rosie!” said Tina. “I’m here. You are not alone now.”
Rosie sniffled. “But you are so small. How can you help me?”
“Small is exactly what we need,” said Tina. “Hold my tail. Follow my feet. Listen for Pip. We will walk out together, one step at a time.”
So they did. Pip flew ahead with his soft glow. Tina led the way with her small, sure feet. Rosie held on tight and was brave.
Step. Step. Step. Toward the light.
And then — out! Out into the warm, bright morning.
The whole valley cheered. The ground shook with happy stomps. The leaves fell down with happy roars.
Rosie’s mama hugged her close. “Thank you, Tina,” she said. “Only someone tiny could have saved her.”
Tina’s brother looked down at her. “You did what none of us big ones could do,” he said. “You were just the right size.”
Tina smiled. She did not feel small anymore. She felt exactly right.
Pip landed on her nose. “I told you,” he buzzed. “One day, small would be exactly what someone needed.”
From that day on, everyone in Green Valley knew her name —
Tina Tiny T. Rex: small, but mighty.
