Chapter 3: The Day the Big Ones Got Stuck#

One morning, a little Triceratops named Rosie was chasing a butterfly.

The butterfly flew up the hill. It flew past the rocks. Then it flew into a narrow crack in the cliff — a thin, dark gap between two big stones.

Rosie ran after it. Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze… and then —

“Help! I’m stuck! It’s too dark in here!”

Rosie’s voice came from deep inside the crack. She was scared.

All the big dinosaurs came running. Tina and Pip came running too.

Tina’s biggest brother pushed his head at the crack. It was far too small for him. He could not fit even one toe inside.

The strongest dinosaur in the valley pushed and pushed at the stones. They did not move. The stones were as heavy as a mountain.

“We are too big,” said Tina’s brother sadly. “We cannot reach her.”

Rosie began to cry inside the dark crack. Everyone felt their hearts go thump with worry.

Tina looked at the thin, dark gap.

She looked at her own small feet.

She looked at her own small tail.

And Tina had a thought — a small thought that grew bigger and bigger, until it felt enormous.

Maybe, she thought, I am exactly the right size.

“Pip,” whispered Tina. “I think I can fit.”

Pip’s wings buzzed with excitement. “Then let’s go,” he said. “I will be your light in the dark.”
